ABOUT DIAMOND SHAPE
The diamond’s physical form is known as its shape and this is one of the first things to consider when selecting a stone. The traditional round diamond is still the most popular, but other “fancy” shaped diamonds (non-round) are increasingly sought after. The fancy family includes oval, cushion, emerald, Asscher, radiant, princess, pear, marquise and heart shaped diamonds. DX offers an extensive array of diamond shapes. We believe every individual ring should be as perfect and precious as the love it symbolises. Learn which shape ultimately expresses both your individuality and union.
ROUND DIAMONDS
The most common shape for brilliant cut diamonds, round diamonds are also the most popular choice for engagement rings, by far. Round diamonds have close to 60 facets in their cut, maximising reflection, light return and brilliance. This sparkling shape is tried and tested, versatile and enduring.
CUSHION SHAPE DIAMONDS
Cushion cut diamonds feature softer, more rounded edges than the other square, rectangular and angled shapes. Once known as Old Mine Cut, this shape has been refined over a long time. A cushion cut is a romantic and ageless diamond.
OVAL SHAPED DIAMOND
An elegant variation on the traditional round brilliant, the oval shape scintillates with the illusion of seeming larger in size. With a similar sparkle to rounds, ovals are a timeless classic.
EMERALD CUT DIAMONDS
The most popular amongst the step-cut shapes, emerald cut diamonds are prized for their distinctive silhouette and subtle style. The stone’s clarity is accentuated by the open table and shallow pavilion, and the rectangular facets reflect a sophisticated glitter.
PEAR SHAPED DIAMONDS
Pear shape diamonds form a symmetrical teardrop shape, with opposing round and pointy ends. The elongated shape tends to be flattering for fingers, as with an oval cut. Pear shaped stones sparkle with a unique aura.
PRINCESS DIAMONDS
A contemporary look with great style and dazzle, the princess cut is one of the most popular amongst the 'fancy' shapes. Usually cut square with four pointed corners and more than 70 facets, princess cut diamonds gleam with a royal radiance.
RADIANT DIAMONDS
Radiant cut diamonds combine the glamorous style of the emerald cut stone with the brilliant sparkle of the classic round. Lightly trimmed at the corners creating a more subtle form, this hybrid shape exudes contemporary appeal.
HEART SHAPED DIAMONDS
The two symmetrical halves form a beautiful shape with romantic allure. The pear cut has been modified with precision to create this dainty, sparkling shape to melt hearts.
